Bermudians wishing to put names forward to a panel selecting the island’s next National Hero have their final day today to make their nomination.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture confirmed that anyone intending to sign up to the Government’s Naming and Recognition committee has one more day to contact the department for Bermuda’s National Heroes.

National Heroes Day is celebrated on the third Monday every June, a public holiday dedicated to honouring those who have made lasting contributions to the island’s history and heritage.

The honour, which was established in 2009, represents the island’s highest recognition for exceptional and enduring service to the community.

There are eight National Heroes: Mary Prince, Gladys Morrell, E.F. Gordon, Sir Henry Tucker; Sir E.T. Richards; Dame Lois Browne-Evans, Pauulu Kamarakafego and Sir John Swan.
