Former resident appointed MBE in New Year Honours

King’s honour for nursing: former Bermuda resident Pam Swain (Photograph supplied)

A former Bermuda resident has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.

Pam Swain has been appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her service to dental nursing over the past 30 years.

Before taking that career path, Ms Swain spent two years working for the Bank of Bermuda.

Ms Swain lived on the island between 1988 and 1990, working in the bank’s investment department.

She also completed several business management courses and began studying for an American Institute of Banking diploma and several business management courses.

Ms Swain left Bermuda for Boston, Massachusetts, where she studied holistic therapy at the Massage Institute of New England.

It was on her return to her native Britain in 1991 that Ms Swain found her true calling, joining the British Association of Dental Nurses as an administrator in 1992.

After more than 30 years with the organisation, she is now its chief executive officer.
