Brewery and restaurant plans submitted for old golf club

Major plans: the clubhouse at the former Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club.

A former golf clubhouse could get a new lease of life as a unit that would host a brewery, a restaurant, bars and even facilities for a driving range.

Riddell's Bay Golf Club, with 19,000 sq ft of space and nearly two acres of land, closed in 2016 and was later put on the market for $2.85 million.

In July 2020 a special development order for an 18-home development and the creation of a conservation area on the golf course was approved.

The Riddell’s Bay Gardens and Nature Reserve covers 66 acres and includes walking trails, gardens and water features with another 23 acres divided into 18 plots of land to build homes.

Now a planning application has been submitted by Onsite Engineering Services Ltd, on behalf of clients, to revitalise the building.

A letter to the planning department said that an industrial warehouse at the site would “primarily house brewery equipment and production to support hotel and bar operations across the country”.

The plans also included revitalising the existing restaurant and bars in the main building and creating outdoor recreational activities, “likely including a golf driving range and event lawn activities”.

Interior renovations would include work on the existing warehouse to create a brewery storage area, the installation of two cold storage rooms, the construction of a bathroom and the addition of a preparation area and staff locker room.

It the latest plan for a brewery in Bermuda. Moongate Brewing Co Ltd recently opened in the Queen’s Warehouse — the former home of the World Heritage Centre.
