Residents were invited to join a community action group this month as it helps people to understand more about its aims.

Bermuda Is Love will hold a series of events and activities designed to reintroduce its mission and vision to the public, while also addressing the principles that guide its work.

The group, which is a registered charity, said it would bring to life its #GettoKnowBIL campaign.

It explained: “Through this campaign, we invite the people of Bermuda to learn more about our mission, vision and the essential work we do to build a more just, compassionate and thriving community.

“Bermuda Is Love stands for the fundamental belief that love, care and mutual support can build a society where everyone’s basic needs are met and where all individuals are empowered to live fulfilling, dignified lives.

“We believe that human rights are non-negotiable and it’s our collective responsibility to ensure that each person has access to these rights.”

The group added on Friday: “Mark your calendars and become part of the movement building a more just and compassionate Bermuda.”

Planned events include a school breakfast day highlighting the right to food at Elliot Primary School, in Devonshire, on Wednesday.

An upcycling event to recognise the right to clothing will be held at the Michelle Fray Design Studio on Burnaby Street from 10am to midday on Saturday.

In acknowledgement of the right to a healthy environment, a trash clean-up will be held at Flora Duffy Hill on January 12 from 10am to midday.

A renting ready workshop, marking the right to housing, will run at Sankofa on Parson’s Road from 6pm to 8pm on January 15.

Highlighting the right to education, a CV and resume workshop will be held at the Department of Workforce Development on Parliament Street on January 18 from 10am to midday.

A blood drive, marking the right to healthcare, will run on January 22 from 8.30am to 2.30pm at the Blood Donor Centre in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

As part of efforts to highlight the right to justice, a free legal advice clinic will run on January 25 at the Western Zone Community Centre on Kitchener Road in Sandys from 9.30am to 11am.

Bermuda Is Love members will take part in a panel discussion on January 29 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, from 5.30pm to 8pm.

The group said: “Participating in the #GettoKnowBIL campaign is easy and impactful.

“Whether you attend an event, volunteer or share our message on social media, your involvement strengthens our mission.

“Use the hashtag #GettoKnowBIL to share your experiences and inspire others to join the movement.

“For event details, updates, and volunteer sign-ups, visit bermudaislove.com or follow us on social media.

“Together, we can create a Bermuda where love and care for one another are at the heart of everything we do.

“Let’s make January a month of change and compassion.”
