Water rationed after Tynes Bay systems failure

Restrictions have been put in place on the supply of pipe water (Photograph supplied)

Engineers and specialists are working to correct a “significant” systems failure that has affected delivery of seawater to the Tynes Bay seawater treatment plant, the Ministry of Public Works has revealed.

With a view to ensuring availability for essential customers, restrictions on the supply of pipe water and to trucking outlets in the central distribution system have been immediately implemented.

The ministry said: “We can assure the public that the western and eastern distribution systems are unaffected by this incident, and water service in these areas will continue as normal.”

The ministry said it is fully committed to resolving the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible.
