Two people will be honoured next month for their “phenomenal achievements” to the insurance industry.

Catherine Duffy and Patrick Tannock were named as the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club’s 2025 honourees for its annual Black History Month celebration in February.

The two will be recognised for their efforts at a celebratory cocktail reception and dinner, which will be held on February 21 at the hotel’s Princess Ballroom.

Tim Morrison, the general manager of the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “This celebration is a beloved annual tradition at the hotel, where we will aim to honour Catherine and Patrick’s accomplishments in the reinsurance market, and the importance of their contributions in our community.”

For special recognition: Patrick Tannock, former chairman of the Association of Bermuda International Companies (Photograph supplied)

During the event, Ms Duffy and Mr Tannock are expected to speak about their accomplishments, career journeys and projects to an audience comprised of their loved ones, friends and members of the community.

The hotel said: “Through the insurance industry, Catherine was exposed to large corporations on the cutting edge of products, services and technology, which made her curious about how our world works.

“Fascinated by our interconnectedness, Catherine became a continuous learner who loves connecting the dots.

“This interest was piqued after she authored the first book about the history of international insurance in Bermuda in 2003.”

Ms Duffy, who was the first in her family to attend university, achieved many other firsts during her career.

She was the first female Bermudian to become a chartered property casualty underwriter and the first Black Bermudian International Women Forum fellow.

She was also the first Black woman to receive the Fred Reiss Lifetime Achievement Award, the first Bermudian Inclusion Champion Award recipient and the first woman to lead AIG Bermuda.

The hotel said: “Patrick Tannock has been a leading advocate of Bermuda’s value proposition and a visible proponent of equity of opportunity in international business throughout his 40-plus year career in the international insurance/reinsurance industry.”

It added: “Before his retirement in June 2024, he was the first Black Bermudian chairman of the Association of Bermuda International Companies for close to ten years and chief executive officer of AXA XL’s Bermuda Insurance Operations for 14 years.

“He was also president of the XL Foundation.”

Mr Tannock’s earlier roles included executive vice president of ACE Bermuda as well as senior brokerage positions with Marsh & McLennan Bermuda.
