New governor swearing-in

The new Governor of Bermuda will be sworn in on the Cabinet Office lawn this morning.

Andrew Murdoch was welcomed at the airport last night, when he met David Burt, the Premier, and other dignitaries.

The former navy commander, who takes over from Rena Lalgie, said earlier that he was committed to serving the people of Bermuda, as well as promoting and strengthening the island’s reputation.

Mr Murdoch was the Director of Ocean Policy at the Foreign Office as well as its Legal Director.

Before joining the organisation 13 years ago, Mr Murdoch served in the Royal Navy for more than two decades, reaching the rank of Commander, Head of Operations, Directorate of Naval Legal Services.
