Charity to launch grief day in March
Residents have been invited to “paint the town orange” in solidarity with people who are navigating grief.
The Gina Spence Programme will host its first Grief, Loss and Awareness Day on March 7 on the steps of City Hall.
The afternoon event will feature words of support from community figures as well as entertainment and exercises to celebrate overcoming grief through a sense of community.
A spokeswoman for the programme said: “The official colour for grief and loss awareness in Bermuda is orange, symbolising hope and healing.
“We invite everyone to join us in wearing orange on this special day as we ‘Paint the city orange’ in solidarity.”
She added: “Grief touches us all, whether through the loss of loved ones, pets, health, relationships or career.
“With over 40 types of losses one can experience in a lifetime, this day will honour our shared experiences and promote a culture of hope and healing across Bermuda.”
As well as joining the event from midday to 2pm outside City Hall on March 7, supporters were encouraged to take part in $5 grub days at school or work to support grief services.
Residents were also urged to become part of the Gina Spence Programme’s volunteer team to help make the event a success.
The spokeswoman said: “This day represents a significant step towards fostering a supportive community where grief and happiness can coexist.
“By participating, you help create a Bermuda where ‘love lives in every memory’.”
