New digital process for Bermuda Arts Council grants
The Bermuda Arts Council has transformed its grant system through a digital platform that offers a “more streamlined and accessible” process for applicants.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, said the new system enables local creatives to apply from anywhere while reducing the need for manual applications.
He added: “This revitalised system also represents a significant step forward in supporting Bermuda's vibrant arts community, providing tools for growth and ensuring a fair and effective distribution of resources.”
Mr Darrell said that by clearly communicating the range of grant amounts, the system can help applicants better plan their projects and manage their financial expectations.
He explained that the system was modelled on globally recognised standards, which positioned Bermuda's arts community on par with international best practices.
The grant system aims to help artists enhance their skills in proposal writing and project planning.
Mr Darrell added: “With clearly set application windows and deadlines, the system promotes efficiency and ensures that both applicants and administrators are well-organised throughout the process.
“By closing the application cycle after deadlines, the council can focus on thorough reviews and fair allocation of funds, ensuring that each application receives the attention it deserves.”
Mr Darrell commended Shanna Hollis, the chairwoman of the Bermuda Arts Council, for her help to improve the system.
