Department of Customs staff hit the road in global celebration
Customs officers highlighted the “vital role” they play in border security when they celebrated International Customs Day on Tuesday.
Department of Customs staff, along with supporters and other government employees, marked the event by taking part in the annual Colin Smith Road Race in St David’s.
Lucinda Pearman, the Collector of Customs said her department was “at the forefront of protecting Bermuda’s borders while facilitating trade and economic growth”.
She added: “This race is a cherished tradition that strengthens our team spirit and reminds us of the dedication and resilience required in our service to the island.”
Kim Wilkerson, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, also commended department staff.
She said: "Customs officers are the unsung guardians of Bermuda’s borders, ensuring the safety and integrity of our island’s trade.
“Celebrating their hard work is always a pleasure, this event is a fitting way to highlight their commitment and teamwork.”
