Pastor will walk the walk to help the homeless
A business executive and pastor will mark a milestone birthday this weekend by raising funds to help the homeless.
Carlton Crockwell, the chief executive and chairman of Security Associates, is inviting residents to join him in a charity walk from Dockyard to St George on Saturday.
Mr Crockwell plans to walk the return leg from St George to Dockyard on Sunday — the day he celebrates his 60th birthday.
Mr Crockwell will be accompanied by his wife, Jorene, and the couple will be starting out on their marathon trek at 5am each morning.
Monies raised will be donated to the Showers for the Homeless organisation.
Mr Crockwell, who is a pastor at the Victory New Kingdom Worship Centre, said: “This isn’t just a walk, it’s a heartfelt opportunity for us to live out our Christian faith, demonstrating love, compassion and service to those in need.
“I am convinced that together we can inspire others to rally around this crucial cause.”
Mr Crockwell encouraged members of the community to walk alongside him for stretches of the journey, or make a donation to enable those experiencing homelessness to have access to hygiene services.
He has set a fundraising target of $5,000 and said he believed that collective efforts can support the many agencies working tirelessly to improve the lives of the homeless.
He said: “Your presence and support would not only mean the world to us but could also amplify our efforts in spreading the word.
“Together, we have the power to make a lasting difference.”
Anyone interested in supporting the initiative can participate in the walk or donate to the fundraising efforts.
