A popular beverage stand was destroyed today after it was crashed into by an errant driver.

Ashley’s Lemonade was levelled after a vehicle mounted the kerb on the corner of Reid Street and Burnaby Street in Hamilton at about 4.45pm.

Ashley Stephens, the owner of the stand, who arrived at the scene with tears in her eyes, said she was just happy that no one was injured.

Ms Stephens added: “Everybody’s safe. We weren’t here and we’re thankful.”

Ms Stephens said that she was in Dockyard offering refreshments at an event when she was called and informed about the incident.

She added that, immediately after her call, she received a photograph of the scene.

Ms Stephens encouraged other motorists to be careful on the roads and to remain thankful in spite of hardships.

She also assured the public that the business will be repaired before summer and promised to see everyone soon.

Ms Stephens said: “We’ll be back; the squeezing doesn’t stop.”

She added: “The community’s been supporting us from the beginning and I trust they’ll be here for us now.”

The driver, a senior, said that he had lost control of the vehicle while driving down Reid Street.

He said that he felt fine physically, adding: “Thank God there was no one else around — that’s the main thing.”

Ashley’s Lemonade had been in existence since 2011 when Ms Stephens, then aged 7, set up the stand on St John’s Road in Pembroke.

The business became a mainstay during Harbour Nights in the summer and at other events across the island.

After setting up a temporary pop-up on Reid Street in 2014, the business moved to the spot in the heart of Hamilton permanently in 2018.

Ashley’s Lemonade has since developed a strong social-media following and has been listed on the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s website.
