Members of the public were warned not to click on a social media post that falsely promoted a Rubis gift card.

Rubis Energy Bermuda, which owns service stations around the island, said the advertisement is fake and is not associated with the company.

The company posted a warning on its Facebook page that said: “Beware of fake Rubis gift card offer.

“Rubis Energy Bermuda Ltd is alerting Bermuda residents about a fraudulent social media advertisement falsely promoting a Rubis gift card offer.

“This scam ad circulating on Facebook attempts to appear legitimate by featuring an image of a local Rubis service station. However, the advertised offer is entirely false.

"Do not click the link associated with this ad. It does not lead to an official Rubis website and may be designed to steal your personal or financial information.

“We want to emphasise that this scam has no affiliation with Rubis Energy Bermuda Ltd or any independently operated Rubis service stations.”

Residents were urged: “If you come across this fake ad, we urge you to report it immediately to the Bermuda Police Service’s online community reporting portal.

“Please stay vigilant and only trust information from official Rubis channels.”

The police portal is available at portal.police.bm.

Other scams in recent months included one that claimed the Bermuda Post Office was getting rid of its stock and selling lost parcels.

Another suggested that LF Wade International Airport was selling off lost luggage and one promoted a public transport “Smart Pass”.
