Power outage sparked by downed utility pole
A downed Belco pole left more than 250 customers in Hamilton Parish without power this morning.
A spokesman for the energy provider said that Belco was working to address the problem, which affected homes along North Shore Road near Francis Patton Primary School.
According to the Belco outage map, 252 customers were affected by the outage from 9am.
According to the outage map at about 7pm, none of those affected have received power yet.
“Our crew has been dispatched and are working to restore the downed pole and power as quickly and safely as possible,” the Belco spokesman said.
“We are advising all motorists to use Harrington Sound Road if travelling west from St George’s as the affected area is operating on a single lane for traffic flow while our team works.
“Please exercise extreme caution when driving, walking or riding near our working crews. The safety of our crew, the public and all road users is paramount.”
People who have been affected by the outage were urged to unplug sensitive equipment and electronics.
Last night, Wayne Caines, the president of Belco, assured the public that crews “successfully restored both the pole and power service”.
He added: “Traffic in the affected area was temporarily restricted to a single lane during repairs. We thank motorists and area residents for their patience while work was being completed.”
