The Government has paid more than $1.25 million for renovations at a Sandys farm, while another $1.13 million was put into new classrooms at a Warwick school.

According to a notice, published under a Pati requirement to disclose all contracts valued at more than $50,000, the Ministry of Public Works paid $1,258,220 to Oncourse Construction Ltd for renovations for Westover Farm in Sandys.

Westover Farms was damaged by a fire in November 2021 and in 2023 the Government published a request for quotations for alterations and renovations to the property.

The RFQ stated that the project would include masonry and concrete work, in addition to electrical, plumbing, tiling and painting at the dairy farm.

The Pati notice also included a number of contracts related to the island’s schools, with the most significant being a $1,135,237 contract to Limestone Holdings for work at Purvis Primary School.

The project involved the construction of new upper-level classrooms and associated restrooms for the school.

Other school-related contracts focused on repainting work at Paget Primary School, Dellwood Middle School, Northlands Primary School, Port Royal Primary School and Somerset Primary School.

The works at Paget Primary School cost a total of $139,000, while the Dellwood Middle School works cost $175,000

Painting works at Northlands Primary School cost a total of $147,491.50, while $102,385 was spent on painting work at Port Royal Primary School and $145,000 was spent at Somerset Primary School.

Meanwhile, Gray and Co Ltd received a $614,933.24 contract for renovation work to the roof at Government House.

The House of Assembly heard in 2022 that the 19th-century building on Langton Hill suffered from extensive water damage because of leaking roofs and faulty windows.

However, major repairs were deferred owing to a lack of cash.

The Royal Gazette revealed in 2023 that Rena Lalgie, the Governor, and her family had to move into temporary accommodation paid for by taxpayers because Government House had been deemed unsafe and not fit to live in.

The structure’s roof and windows need to be replaced or repaired and the full remediation was expected to take three to five years.

Other contracts included in the notice were $568,854 for renovations to the Department of Public Lands and Buildings Prospect Depot received by Brunel Engineering Ltd and a $294,819 contract to Limestone Holdings Ltd for renovations to the restrooms at Darrell’s Island.

An RFQ for the Darrell’s Island project published last year stated the work would include demolishing and replacing partitions, installing new railings and counter tops, replacing wall and floor tiles, removing toilets, urinals and basins and installing new ones.

Henry Schein, a US-based dental supply firm, meanwhile received a $275,534 contract to supply and install dental furniture and equipment at the Mangrove Bay Clinic as part of a refurbishment project at that facility.

The Somerset Clinic was closed in 2017, but a planning application to revitalise the property was approved in 2022.

In early 2023, Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, revealed that $700,000 had been set aside to renovate the facility, blaming its closure on “asbestos and the like”.

Ms Wilson said the clinic would provide a range of health services, including child immunisation and check-ups, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech services, sexual and reproductive health services, adult wellness clinics and mental health services.
