Aegon launches community investment programme
A financial services firm has launched an investment programme aimed at supporting the community.
In line with Aegon’s purpose of “helping people live their best lives“, the initiative comprises three components — education, financial and social empowerment — and a grant to the Bermuda Foundation.
The company said the programme further strengthens its relationship with Bermuda that began 20 years ago when Transamerica Bermuda Life, an Aegon subsidiary, established its presence on the island. Aegon also redomiciled its legal seat to Bermuda in September 2023.
Lard Friese, the chief executive of Aegon, said: “Our commitment to Bermuda goes beyond business; it’s about building lasting relationships and contributing to the growth and wellbeing of this vibrant community.
“We are excited to work together with partners that offer financial and social opportunities to help more people live their best lives.”
As part of the programme, Aegon will support students pursuing careers within Bermuda’s local economy, in industries such as healthcare, the trades and technology.
Aegon’s Live Your Best Life Scholarships offer up to $30,000 each per academic year and will be available for professional and vocational training.
The firm will provide grants to local non-profit organisations that focus on financial literacy, social capabilities and resilience.
Aegon said in a statement: “This includes initiatives that promote financial education, encourage entrepreneurship and help people develop the skills they need to play an active role in Bermuda’s economy.
“Aegon will also support organisations addressing broader social inclusion by fostering community engagement, offering support services and promoting safety nets.”
Aegon will contribute to the Bermuda Foundation as an investment in its long-term sustainability.
The foundation was established 11 years ago to build a lasting endowment for the community, managing philanthropic funds directed to non-profit organisations.
The Bermuda Foundation will support Aegon with the administration of its community investment programme.
Starting this year, the programme will run for an initial term of three years.
