Police officer dismissed for gross misconduct
A police constable has been dismissed after a disciplinary process, the Bermuda Police Service have announced.
Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said the male officer’s actions amounted to gross misconduct and his breaches of the standards of professional behaviour were “incompatible with continued service in the BPS”.
Mr Simons said: “Our ability to police effectively relies on the public’s trust and confidence.
“If we lose that trust, we compromise our ability to serve our community.
“Upholding the highest standards of professional conduct is essential to maintaining this trust.
“Notwithstanding this occurrence, I am confident in our ability to move forward with professionalism and dedication.”
The announcement comes after an investigation was launched into officers’ conduct.
Last July, seven officers were suspended while under investigation for allegations of gross misconduct and criminality.
Antoine Daniels, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, said at the time that four officers faced criminal allegations and three others face allegations of gross misconduct.
Mr Daniels would not share details of the ongoing investigations at the time and said that information would be disclosed only if an officer was charged, convicted and/or dismissed.
Nicholas Pedro, a former senior detective, was sacked after a 30-year career because of his involvement in a criminal investigation into a leaked document detailing the marriage breakdown of former police commissioner Stephen Corbishley.
