Best face forward – Fenty ambassador to share expertise
A globally renowned make-up artist is in Bermuda to share her beauty wisdom.
Naïma Bremer was born and raised in Curaçao, with family from St Kitts & Nevis and Cuba, making her an island girl to her core.
The looks she has created have graced major publications while clients have included models and celebrities.
After a decade in the make-up industry, Ms Bremer was appointed to represent the Caribbean as a global artistry ambassador for cosmetic powerhouse Fenty Beauty, created by Barbadian musical artist Rihanna.
She travelled to Bermuda this week to talk about her journey, her passion for make-up and to teach an exclusive beauty master class with 59 Front, which launched its release of Fenty products last October.
The cosmetics brand is built on inclusivity and accessibility for all skin tones.
She said the best advice she could give to young people was: “If you go for it, you have to go for it 100,000 per cent.
“You kind of have to listen to yourself first and walk out of the noise.”
While she had dabbled in make-up growing up, Ms Bremer’s original plan was to become a doctor but she could not ignore her passion for the creativity offered by the make-up industry.
Ms Bremer left Curaçao for Europe when she was 17.
Inspired by the work she was seeing in the growing make-up industry, at 20 years old she took a chance and pursued a full-time career in the field of beauty.
Her work began for television shows, music videos and photo shoots.
Ms Bremer established a presence in the field that allowed her to be exposed to exciting opportunities.
She has since worked at fashion week events around the world, high-profile publications and some of the biggest names in pop culture.
Her clientele includes musical artists such as Willow Smith and Saweetie, models including Jasmine Tookes and Natasha Poly, and actresses Ryan Destiny and Hannah Dowd.
Despite her many accolades, Ms Bremer has never forgotten her island roots.
Elements such as colourful eyeshadow and lip liner are among the make-up trends she employs that remind her of home.
She said: “I love wearing blue eye shadow and I feel like you don’t see that a lot.
“I feel like in the Caribbean, I remember people loved colourful eye shadows back in the day, and lip liner.”
In partnership with 59 Front, a Phoenix Store location on Front Street and the only place in Bermuda that sells the Fenty brand, Ms Bremer will lead a two-day make-up event this weekend.
A beauty talk with a live masterclass and stations showcasing the latest Fenty products will be held at The Loren this evening from 6pm.
The $150 ticket price includes a Fenty Beauty gift card, redeemable during a shopping experience tomorrow to promote the brand.
