Exceptional athletes feature on new sports cards
Five cards showcasing exceptional athletes have been released by the Bermuda Police Service.
To date, the cards series features 20 different local sports.
The cards, which are produced by the BPS in collaboration with the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, feature the 2024-25 Bermuda legends and superstars.
The sports include triathlon, boxing, track and field, road running, football, golf, bowling, cycling, archery, martial arts, sailing, cricket, tennis, rugby, netball, swimming, squash, diving, field hockey and softball, the police said.
This month, the cards feature Brian Wellman, a track and field legend; swim star Jenny Smatt; Rachael Betschart, a sailing superstar; LeiLanni Nesbeth, a football superstar; and Quinton Sherlock Jr, who excelled in golf.
The release takes the number of legends featured to ten, while 30 superstars have been revealed to date.
One legend and three superstars are to be unveiled on the remaining sports cards.
The police said 40 collectible sports cards have been released since last October, with the final card scheduled to be distributed next month.
All 44 legends and superstars sports cards feature the local athlete’s name, photograph and sport on the front.
The reverse provides a synopsis of their notable sporting achievements, as well as a personal quote.
The police said: “Our youth are encouraged to actively seek out police officers on patrol throughout the island for an opportunity, through positive interaction or engagement, to receive one of the latest collectible sports cards.”
Students can collect one of the 40 inspiring sports cards at any police station although, due to demand, some may no longer be available.
