The Government will host several town hall meetings to hear concerns from Devonshire communities plagued with infrastructural concerns.

Residents of Mary Victoria Road, Alexandra Road and Cedar Park will have a chance to review plans to revamp the areas and share their thoughts.

A spokesman said: “The Government recognises and shares the frustration felt by many residents, who have patiently endured years of band-aid solutions and minimal progress.

“The pledge made during the most recent Throne Speech — to develop a comprehensive master plan for these neighbourhoods — is not just a promise, but a priority.”

The assurance came after residents of Mary Victoria Road spoke up about longstanding water and plumbing problems, including absent or discoloured water and leaky pipes.

People within Mary Victoria Road and Alexandra Road have also complained about a lack of light fixtures, which made conditions more dangerous at night.

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works, said he was aware of the residents’ frustrations.

He said: “My ministry is committed to completing a detailed plan this year that tackles water, sewage, lighting and drainage issues head-on.

“This is not a quick fix, but we are looking towards sustainable, long-term, lasting solutions.”

Diallo Rabain, the MP and Minister of the Cabinet Office, acknowledged constituents’ concerns.

He said: “These are proud, hardworking families who deserve better.

“While there have been delays, I want to be clear — this government has not forgotten you. We are moving forward and you will be a part of every step we take.

“I also want to thank Minister Adams for establishing a direct line of communications with residents to keep them updated on water issues.”

Zane De Silva, the housing minister, said that many homes in the area fell under his remit.

He explained: “I have been made aware of and acknowledge the concerns expressed by Bermuda Housing Corporation tenants regarding policies, treatment and maintenance issues.

“As the newly appointed Deputy Premier and Minister of Housing and Municipalities, I take these matters very seriously and commit to ensuring all BHC tenants receive fair treatment and reside in safe, well-maintained housing.”

Mr De Silva said that his ministry would re-examine maintenance protocols and put measures in place to quicken response times.

He added that he hoped to expand availability of housing by assessing and fixing vacant units over a fixed timeline.

Mr De Silva promised to strengthen communications between the BHC and residents.

He added: “I am committed to fostering an environment of transparency, accountability and continuous improvement within the BHC.

“To that end, I will schedule meetings with tenant representatives to listen to their concerns and suggestions.

“Together, we will work towards solutions that uphold the dignity and wellbeing of all residents.”
