Bermuda Walls mural event returns for a second year
Local and international mural artists will unleash their creative talent in the coming days as Bermuda Walls hosts its second annual event.
The public were invited to look out for the various artists who will be making their mark in several locations around the island from today.
There are 11 overseas and seven Bermudian muralists.
On Sunday, there will be a free festival on Woodlands Road, in Hamilton, including a DJ, a pop-a-wheelie competition hosted by Mr Fotogenik, bouncy castles and food vendors.
Bermuda Walls, which was founded by Glayson Leroy, Spencer Butterfield and Nhuri Bashir, made its debut last year with a festival in the same location after several murals were created.
“Last year made it clear — Bermuda Walls belongs here,” said Mr Butterfield, who is also the chief executive of Butterfield & Vallis.
“Seeing the community embrace this festival of the arts was incredible and we’re excited to keep building on that energy.
“This year, we invite everyone to come out, celebrate art and support the artists while enjoying a one-of-a-kind day out with friends and family.”
The locations for the new murals are Parson’s Road; Belvin’s on Happy Valley Road; the side of Par-la-Ville parking lot; The Royal Gazette building on Par-la-Ville Road; and Butterfield & Vallis on Woodlands Road, where the final celebrations are scheduled to take place.
A map of the sites will be shared this week and real-time updates will be available on Bermuda Walls’s Instagram page at @bermudawalls.
The local artists featured this year are Robyn Hooper, James Cooke, Keile Rabain, Shanna Hollis, Alshante Foggo, Jabarri Wilson and Carlos Santana.
They will be joined by international muralists Hiero, Bacon, BK Foxx, CP1, CHNK, Binho, Karol Stefanini, JEKS, Nico, MRB Baby and Grabster.
Mr Bashir, who is also the cofounder of Burnt House Productions, said: “Bermuda Walls might only be a year old but already it feels like we started something that’s going to last.
“This year, I’m especially excited about the new murals that are taking place in North Hamilton, the neighbourhood where I grew up.
“Art has the power to transform spaces and bring people together and we can't wait for everyone to see what’s coming.’
Mr Leroy added: “Seeing the island come alive with colour and creativity has been inspiring.
“We’re so pleased to be bringing even more talent this year and I can’t wait to see the magic they make.”
The Bermuda Walls festival will take place on Sunday from 11am until 4pm. Entry is free.
Parking is available at the Bermuda Athletics Association and at Bull’s Head car park.
