Lightbourne meets with Belco, Regulatory Authority
Alexa Lightbourne, the Minister of Home Affairs, have met with Belco and the Regulatory Authority to discuss matters facing the island’s energy sector.
A government spokeswoman said that at a recent meeting, Ms Lightbourne spoke with the senior leadership of Belco, emphasising the need for transparency, efficiency and the inclusion of the public interest in decision making.
The minister also spoke with the board and operational leadership of the RA to discuss the body’s oversight responsibilities and how to strengthen regulatory transparency and improve public confidence.
Ms Lightbourne described the meetings as constructive, stating that they would help chart a course forward.
“As outlined in the Throne Speech, our government is committed to reducing the rising cost of living and strengthening consumer protections,” she said.
“That is our ministry’s unwavering focus, and we look forward to advancing the policies and legislative reforms that will have a meaningful impact.”
Ms Lightbourne is scheduled take part in additional meetings in the coming weeks, including discussions with the Department of Energy about the recently announced Energy Policy Steering Committee and policy development.
