Two seriously injured in industrial accident
Two men suffered serious injuries in an industrial accident during renovation work at the Fairmont Southampton hotel on Sunday.
According to police, the incident, which happened at about 10.45am, involved an electrical transformer.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “The two injured persons, both males, were transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to their injuries, which have been described as serious.”
Shelly Leman, the managing director of Belco, said the firm received notification of an outage at the property at about 10.40am.
Ms Leman said: “On arrival, Belco crews were informed that there had been an accident involving a contractor working on the hotel’s internal electrical network and that injuries had been sustained to workers at the site.
“Belco crews isolated the hotel’s network from the substation and have provided technical resources to support the hotel and police with their investigations.
“At this time I would like to offer my thoughts to those who have been injured.”
