Four Bermuda Police Service staff members have won recognition for their outstanding contributions to policing.
Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns, Julie Trott, Inspector Cerepha Bridgeman and Chief Inspector Andrew Smalling were recognised by the British Overseas Territories Women in Policing Network during a virtual ceremony on Thursday.
They were among awardees from Anguilla, Bermuda, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, St Helena and the Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus.
They were nominated by their respective law enforcement agencies and selected by an independent overseas committee for their work supporting women in policing.
Ms Burns won the Inspirational Woman Award for her resilience, leadership and initiative in launching the BPS Women in Policing Network.
Ms Bridgeman received a leadership award, with commendation for her commitment to community engagement, youth mentorship and supporting vulnerable groups.
Mrs Trott was recognised for outstanding contributions, particularly exceptional leadership in complex procurement processes, and project management. She was also commended for stepping up to guide the BPS technology department.
Mr Smalling, recipient of the HeForShe Award, was recognised for his consistent, positive efforts in championing equality and supporting colleagues.
Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons said: “I'm absolutely thrilled to share that four of our own were recognised for their incredible work, dedication and talent, embodying the values and commitment we strive for in the BPS every day.
“These individuals represent the high calibre we have within the BPS, and their achievements reflect positively on all of us.
“This thoroughly well-deserved recognition makes me incredibly proud to lead this service.”
