BUEI to feature seashells at children’s event
The “sensational” world of seashells will be featured at a children’s event at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Saturday.
Kids Hour at BUEI, an event sponsored by BF&M, is held on the third Saturday of each month from January to September.
It will run at 11am and 2pm.
A different ocean-themed topic is the subject of each occasion and the event includes a short film, book reading and fun activities for children aged 3 and up.
This month, the BUEI will screen the films 15 STUNNING Beach Shell Creatures, which rates the most beautiful seashells found, and How Seashells Are Made, which explains how shells are formed and evolve in nature.
Secrets of the Seashore, a book by Carron Brown and Alyssa Nassner, will explore animals and plants living in and around the edge of the ocean.
Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members and $5 per child for non-members. The cost includes admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre.
At the centre, visitors can explore the expansive shell room, which features one of the world’s largest privately owned seashell collections, with more than 1,200 specimens.
The BUEI said parents and caregivers must remain on site and supervise their children at all times.
Next month’s event on May 17 will feature “the crafty world of crabs”.
Space is limited for this weekend’s event and advance registration was encouraged by e-mailing giftshop@buei.bm or by calling 294-0204.
