Weeks calls for togetherness ahead of Easter festivities
Residents were encouraged by the national security minister to embrace the spirit of togetherness ahead of Easter celebrations this week.
Michael Weeks described the period as a time of “reflection, renewal and togetherness” and “a cherished time in Bermuda”.
He said: “Good Friday holds a special place in our hearts and our culture.
“Whether you’re out flying your traditional Bermuda kite, playing marbles with family or simply enjoying the company of friends and loved ones, this weekend is about celebrating life, community and hope.”
Mr Weeks noted that while the long weekend was a joyous occasion, it was also a time when the island must be especially mindful of safety and unity.
He said: “We celebrate Good Friday not only through our outdoor traditions but also by remembering its deeper meaning — the story of sacrifice, resurrection and new beginnings.
“This message of hope and peace should guide us not just in church pews but every interaction throughout the weekend.”
With many people expected to be on the roads and at social gatherings, the ministry urged residents to take extra care, look out for one another and make wise choices.
Mr Weeks said: “I hope that we continue to honour this holiday in a way that reflects who we are as Bermudians — resilient, respectful and community-minded.
“Let us make this weekend one that uplifts, connects and keeps us all safe.”
