‘Brave’ TCD employees rewarded for service
Two men who de-escalated a tense situation were awarded the Public Service Excellence Award for March.
Dayvon Tucker and Vaughn Davis, an examiner and a traffic officer with the Transport Control Department, last month prevented a potentially serious altercation from developing at their workplace.
A government spokeswoman said that the men, who were helped by another from the Department of Education, displayed “extraordinary courage” and heroism.
She added: “Workplace safety remains a top priority and it is essential that public officers are prepared to respond to a range of situations with calm, respect and composure.
“While de-escalation is always preferred, there are times when circumstances require immediate, decisive action to protect the wellbeing of others.”
The spokeswoman said the actions of the three men prioritised the safety of others while role modelling the public service’s standard of professionalism.
David Burt, the Premier, said: “I am honoured to recognise these outstanding individuals for their brave and selfless actions.
“Their deep sense of responsibility and dedication to the safety of others reflects our highest organisational standards.
“I thank them for their fearless service to the community.”
Cherie Whitter, the Head of the Public Service, added: “These officers truly went above and beyond the call of duty in a moment of real pressure.
“Their conduct is a shining example of one of our core values — to put people first in all that we do.
“We celebrate their heroism and extend our heartfelt gratitude for their outstanding contribution.
“Their efforts have made a lasting impact and they are most deserving of this recognition.”
