Sex offender Ernest Charles McQueen to be deported

Sex offender Ernest Charles McQueen is expected to be released on Wednesday (Photograph supplied)

Sex offender Ernest Charles McQueen is to be deported after completing his jail sentence.

The Jamaican national was due to be released from prison this Wednesday.

However, the Minister of Economy and Labour and the Department of Immigration have both said that the 58-year-old registered sex offender would remain in custody until his “imminent deportation”.

McQueen, from Pembroke, was previously incarcerated for the sexual exploitation of a young person while in a position of trust.

In accordance with Section 329H of the Criminal Code 1907, the Minister of Justice has the power to disclose information regarding sex offenders who may present a significant risk to the health or safety of the public, an affected group or an individual.

Following this, Kim Wilson, the Acting Minister of Justice, after consulting with the Commissioner of Police, determined there should be a public notification McQueen had finished his sentence.
