Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, this week visited Royal Bermuda Regiment soldiers in Jamaica assisting in hurricane recovery.

Mr Weeks, along with Noel Martin, Bermuda’s national disaster co-ordinator, met with the troops in St Elizabeth parish, where they are working with regional and international partners to refurbish homes and improve hurricane resilience.

The operation joins the Jamaica Defence Force, the Guyana Defence Force and the Ghana Armed Forces, along with a British Overseas Territories contingent with RBR soldiers working alongside representatives from the Turks and Caicos and the Cayman Islands.

Mr Weeks said he travelled to Jamaica to see their work first-hand and thank the soldiers personally.

He added: “Each of them volunteered for this mission, and they continue to demonstrate the highest standards of service.

“This deployment goes beyond immediate repairs. It is important that we support families as they rebuild in a way that solidifies and protects their homes against future storms.”
