National Sports Centre closes because of positive Covid-19 case

The National Sports Centre complex has been shut after a part-time employee tested positive for Covid-19.

The facility, which caters to several sports during the week, including swimming, hockey, athletics and national football team training, will be closed immediately, Craig Tyrrell, the senior vice-president of operations, said on the weekend.

“This is being done out of abundance of caution, as a number of other employees have been identified as close contacts,” Tyrrell said.

“Due to the impact on staffing levels, the facility will remain closed until all staff can be tested and cleared to return to work. We thank our members and the public that use the facility for their understanding and patience at this time, and we look forward to reopening when it is deemed safe to do so."

Saturday’s planned athletics meet was postponed because of new restrictions brought on by an increase in Covid-19 cases.
