Softball season cancelled
Softball Bermuda regrets to announce the cancellation of its 2021 season.
Monday’s announcement by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport to move all sport back to Stage 1 of the Return to Play Guidance is a crucial reason for this decision.
The executive of Softball Bermuda has been deliberating for more than six months on a safe and effective way to return to play, so this decision is not taken lightly.
We estimate that it will be several months before Bermuda reaches Stage 4 of the Return to Play guidance. Even then, the restrictions would have limited play to two games a night with multiple constraints, including but not limited to restricting the number of people inside the Michael Preece Softball Diamond to a maximum of 25, and testing of all participants every 28 days.
This will be the second year that no league softball will be played. Softball Bermuda is planning on returning to playing games in 2022. We are projecting a February 2022 start, assuming that it will be safe to do so.
