Kings endure mixed fortunes in Commercial Softball League
The Kings endured mixed fortunes from this week’s Commercial Softball League Division A fixtures.
They came out on top of a hard-fought encounter with Blue Wahoos prevailing 16-11 but also went on to suffer a comprehensive 19-3 defeat to X-Bats. Earlier in the week, X-Bats lost to Paraquet Flyers 14-13.
The other Division A contest saw Fully Loaded Allstars win a nail-biter against MoonGate Brewers 11-10. Manuel Flores scored three home runs for Allstars as he plated eight runs while team-mates Steve O’Flynn (4-4) and Lewis Reynoso (3-4) set the table for him.
Allstars and Flyers lead the division with 2-1 records.
The Hakuna Matata Lions narrowly overcame the Beach Bums in Division B winning 13-11 in a battle of the previously unbeaten teams.
Bums were down early but fought back by scoring eight runs in the final two innings.
A grand slam by Tom Hart in the seventh helped Bums draw within two. Shannon Raynor (3-4) was the standout player for Lions as he drove home five runs. Raynor’s team-mates Troy Hall and Scott Barnes also had three hits apiece in the victory. The Lions are now 3-0 and are one of three teams who maintain a perfect record.
Meanwhile, FIU Scared Hitless edged ragamuffins 17-14.
In Division C, Mike’s Trucking overcame Corporation of Hamilton 15-1. Trucking also bested Oddballs 10-1
Ray Martin was 4-4 for Trucking in the Oddballs win, while team-mates Dean Abigail (3-4) and Jaryn Martin (2-3) also contributed. Oddballs only had three hits in the loss.
The two victories helped Trucking become the first team to claim four wins this season.
Super Express demolished Butterfield & Vallis 36-1 in a game that only lasted four innings. Mackih McGowan, Antoine Williams, and Garic Swainson were all 5-5. Chris Mayne doubled home the lone run for B&V.
In the remaining fixture, Five O’s triumphed in a 13-12 match against Oddballs.
