Bermuda finish sixth in Antigua
Bermuda’s senior men’s volleyball team finished sixth overall in the Eastern Caribbean Tournament in Antigua.
Having finished third in Pool A, Bermuda narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals and instead had to settle for a spot in fifth and sixth-place play-off match where they faced St Vincent and the Grenadines, who had also finished third in pool B.
There the opposition proved too strong for Bermuda, who went down to straight sets 25-20, 25-10, 25-20 defeat.
Bermuda had looked on course to securing a spot in the semi-finals having just lost one of their four pool matches.
The team overcame Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda and Saint Kitts & Nevis, while going down to Grenada.
However, despite the top-three teams all finishing with a 3-1 record, it was Antigua & Barbuda who claimed top spot with 16 points, narrowly ahead of Grenada on 15 points. Bermuda finished a further two points adrift.
The semi-finals on Saturday saw pool A winners Antigua & Barbuda and pool B table-toppers St Lucia advance to the final after close victories beating St Maarten 3-1 and St Grenada 3-2 respectively.
Antigua & Barbuda went on to be crowned champions after beating St Lucia 3-2 in a thrilling final.
Sint Maarten took third after overcoming Grenada 3-0 in the third-place play-off.
