Invitational Gig Regatta set for welcome return after four-year hiatus.
More than 70 rowers from Bermuda and further afield will take to the waters around the island in the next week as part of the Argus Invitational Gig Regatta.
The competition, which consists of all-male and all-female crews racing in staggered heats, will allow local crews the opportunity to compete against visiting rowers after the regatta planned for 2020 was postponed.
The event commences with the Spanish Point Challenge, with crews battling it out from 9.30am to 4pm in the Great Sound, before action resumes on Wednesday with the St George’s Sprint, which will see co-ed crews mixed up with local and visiting rowers competing from 1pm to 5pm in the harbour.
Racing concludes on Saturday October 29, with the Mangrove Bay Finale from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Hosted by the Bermuda Pilot Gig Club, this will be the third time the event has been held with the first taking place in 2016.
Gig rowing is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United Kingdom, and Bermuda is no different, with nine pilot gig boats on the island, 150 members and regular rowing taking place at East, Central, and West locations since the club formed seven years ago.
