Team Jurassic dominate opener race of international gig regatta
Team Jurassic got off to the perfect start to the Argus International Gig Regatta with both their women’s and men's crews taking victory in the opening race, the Spanish Point Challenge, on Sunday.
Bright skies and 17-knot headwinds created a tough challenge for the seven all-female and six male crews who tackled the 1.25-mile course, complete with three turns, before racing for the finish line just off of the Spanish Point Boat Club.
Team Jurassic, which is comprised of members from pilot gig clubs located along the Jurassic Coast, a stretch of coastline in southern England situated within the counties of Dorset and Devon, pipped CoRaCle to victory in the ladies’ final, while the men’s team beat out Bermuda Pilot Gig Club 3 to glory.
The regatta resumes today with the St George’s Sprint, which will mix together international and local rowers to form co-ed crews, in fun and friendly challenge, with racing taking place in and around St George’s Harbour between 1pm to 5pm.
The regatta will then head west for the Mangrove Bay Finale at Sandys Boat Club from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday.
At the conclusion of racing, the club will then host the closing party and awards presentation from 5pm.
