Aaron Bean kept beat Zane DeSilva 2-0 to make it through the first round of the Bermuda Open singles at Warwick Workmen’s Club on Tuesday night.
Bean won the first frame 44-24 and the second 58-30 to advance to the second round, where he will come up against the experienced Tyler Moniz.
Also advancing in tournament play was Spanish Point Boat Club’s Chris Dakin, who defeated Sandys Boat Club’s Paul Fedden 2-0 in the second round of the Tony DeSilva Memorial Cup.
Dakin won the opening frame 60-39 and the second 62-35 and will face the winner of Warwick Workmen’s Club’s Richard Burton and Spanish Point Boat Club’s Tyler Moniz in the quarter-final on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Spanish Point Boat Club II beat Royal Artillery Club 3-2 in the semi -final of the Mike Zimmerman Team Challenge.
Tyler Moniz won the first of two frames against RAA’s Kyle Williams 52-42 on the black ball to earn the hosts the lead and Billy Wotton doubled the advantage after beating Jacal Washington 53-46 on a re-spotted black.
Fred Richardson pulled one back for RAA courtesy of a 63-38 win over reigning Bermuda Open Champion John Orr.
Williams then avengef his defeat to Moniz in the first frame when recording a narrow win 43-41 on the black ball in the second frame between the two and with the match hanging in the balance, Spanish Point’s Orr and Wotton beat RAA’s Richardson and Washington 43-21 in the doubles.
Spanish Point will now meet either Sandys Boat Club and Warwick Workmen’s Club II in the final.
