Junior volleyball stars take part in Nike Festival
Six teams made up of Bermuda volleyball’s brightest young talents have flown to Boston to take part in the prestigious Nike Volleyball Festival.
Taking place from Friday to Sunday at the Boston Conventiion and Exhibition Centre, the three day USA Volleyball-sanctioned event has attracted 512 teams from the United States and further afield.
Four girls teams named Paradise Hitters (U12, U13, U14 & U16) and two boys teams competing as Big Wave Riders (U14 and U16) will represent Bermuda’s hopes with the players training two to three times a week since September to prepare for the tournament.
In a statement, The Bermuda Volleyball Association said: “The selection process for Bermuda’s teams was a difficult one, so congratulations to those who have been selected and to everyone else who have put in so much dedication and commitment.
“Travelling to these tournaments provides these young athletes the opportunity to compete overseas. This is an invaluable experience which allows them to gain experience above and beyond what is available in Bermuda.
“None of this would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and dedicated team of coaches and staff. Our amazing sponsors have allowed this programme to be accessible to so many new players and have helped provide the opportunities to create seasoned players that have the experience to compete on the global stage.
“All coaches are committed to the players and the programme; not only creating talented volleyball players, but strong, confident, team-oriented young leaders.”
