Yushae DeSilva-Andrade wins silver medal at World Boccia Cup
Yushae DeSilva-Andrade has won a silver medal for Bermuda at the Boccia World Cup.
DeSilva-Andrade produced a string of stellar performances to make it to the semi-final, where she met Angeline Lawas from Malaysia, with the match turning into a nail-biting affair.
In the semi-final after after three ends De-Silva Andrade was facing the end of her tournament but fought back to stage an amazing comeback after throwing the jack long to score five points. She then kept her composure to score one point in the tie-break and seal the victory.
In the gold-medal match DeSilva-Andrade played woeld No. 3 Yee Ting Jeralyn Tan from Singapore.
The first three ends were tightly contested, but the Singaporean had the edge by securing the points to go 5-0 up with one end to play. Again, DeSilva-Andrade went long with the jack in order to have any chance and she put her 1st ball really close to the jack.
Tan was unable to get any of her balls closer and Yushae had five balls left to try to snatch the points, but was only able to score three.
That was enough for a silver medal for Bermuda at an international event featuring 28 countries and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes, volunteer support staff.
