Chase McCrimmon stars as Saltus dominate schools badminton finals
Saltus Grammar School won three of the four titles up for grabs at the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s middle school boys badminton tournament on Monday.
Chase McCrimmon won double gold in the under-13 division. McCrimmon won the singles after defeating schoolmate Ernie Ball 11-6, 11-3 in the final, with that pair teaming up to win the doubles final with an 11-7, 11-1 victory over the Warwick Academy duo of Nathan Carreiro and Finn Peters.
McCrimmon defeated Somersfield Academy's Brooklyn Barnett 11-1 in the semi-final with Ball winning 11-6 over Somersfield's No.1 seed Aaron Lee, who defeated Barnett 11-5 to claim the bronze medal.
The Warwick Academy pair of Tristan Smale and Michael Mohipp picked up the under-13 doubles bronze with an 11-8 win over Lee and Barnett in the third-place match.
McCrimmon and Ball defeated Smale and Mohipp 11-3 in the semi-final and Carreiro and Peters edged past Lee and Barnett 13-11 in the other semi.
Play-off results
Warwick Academy's top seed Michael Schrah defeated Warwick number two Jadon Spriggs in a three set thriller 11-5, 9-11,11-7. Schrah defeated Saltus’s Tristan Pettit 11-7, while Spriggs defeated Warwick's William Britten 11-6. Pettit then won the bronze medal match 11-7
Pettit teamed up with Connor Hupman to lead Saltus to the Over-13 doubles title with an 11-7, 11-3 win over the Somersfield pair of Nate Thomas and Max Wallace.
The champions defeated Warwick's Spriggs and Schrah 13-11 in the semi- final. Thomas and Wallace defeated schoolmates Xavier Daponte and Jitshuen Liew in the other semi-final. Liew and DaPonte went on to win the bronze medal with an 11-7 win over Schrah and Spriggs
