Somersfield Academy dominates senior girls badminton finals
Somersfield Academy claimed the top two spots in all age groups at the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Senior Girls Badminton Tournament on Tuesday.
All four under-16 Somersfield players made it to the semi-finals, with Emma Allington prevailing after upsetting top seed Robin-Valana Pearman 11-6 in the final. A
llington defeated Grace Lightowler 11-7 in her semi-final, while Pearman defeated Somersfield second seed Hannah Taylor 11-8. Taylor finished in third place after edging past Lightowler 13-11.
Allington and Lightowler then teamed up to with an all Somersfield doubles final 11-9 over Pearman and Taylor. The Saltus team of Carleigh Rodney and Emily Henshilwood defeated their schoolmates Avani Patton and Evie Hook 11-5 to finish third.
Izzy White overcame top seed Satya Darrell 12-10 in a see-saw battle in the over-16 final.
Both players finished their respective round-robin pools undefeated laying the groundwork for yet another Somersfield showdown.
Darrell defeated Warwick Academy's Adriana Argent 11-8 in the semi-final with White getting past Saltus's Hayley Moss 11-5. Moss defeated Argent 11-6 to earn the bronze medal.
Darrell teamed up with Maya Rajeh to defeat the other Somersfield pair of White and Arabella Crofts 11 - 7 in the over-16 doubles final.
Both teams had fought hard to make it through to the final with 12-10 wins in the semis. Darrell and Rajeh overcame the Saltus pair of Moss and Gabrielle Tuechiaro, while white and Crofts overcame Argent and her Warwick team-mate Samara Darrell. The Saltus pair defeated Warwick 11-5 in the third-place match
Darrell saw off Saltus's Katherine Bean Rosario 11-2 in the quarter-finals while White overcame schoolmate Maya Rajeh 11-1. Moss was victorious over Samara Darrell of Warwick Academy.
