Bermuda’s women’s beach volleyball team picked up their first victory in group B at the Central American and Caribbean Games after being awarded a walkover against Suriname.

Having suffered a straight-sets loss against the Dominican Republic in their opening encounter on Wednesday, the pair of Lisa LeBlanc and Meghan Calhoun were handed a 2-0 win without having to play after the Suriname team failed to fulfil the fixture.

It is the second time in as many days that Suriname have suffered walkover defeats, after failing to play their first match against Colombia.

As a result of Suriname’s forfeit, Bermuda will finish in third place in group and will progress to the next phase of the competition, which begins on Friday
