Bermuda contingent endure mixed fortunes at World Kickboxing and Karate Championships
Bermuda endured mixed fortunes at the World Kickboxing and Karate Championships in Bali, Indonesia, today.
Kallan Todd secured a second successive win to advance in the K-1 class while Krista Dyer suffered defeat in the 63kg female Emerge Series final in K-1 rules.
Todd produced an excellent display of K-1 kickboxing on the way to a third-round knockout win against Faramarz Abdi of Iran to secure his spot in the next round.
However, Dyer endured a much tougher outing in a unanimous points decision loss to Ihipera Mackey, of New Zealand.
Mackey dominated the opening round to seize early control before Dyer came storming back in the second. However, it would not be the 35-year-old’s day as Mackey landed the bigger shots in the third and final round to seal victory.
It proved to be a busy day for team Bermuda with Garon Wilkinson taking part in a Low Kick Kickboxing bout and Full Contact Karate match and Todd in a mixed martial arts contest.
Wilkinson endured mixed fortunes as he won his kickboxing match but lost his karate contest.
The Bermuda Sanshou Association president hardly had time to recover between his matches against unmatched opponents that were only separated by one bout.
Todd also endured fluctuating fortunes on the day having lost against Ryker Tepania, of New Zealand, on his mixed martial arts debut.
