Bermuda’s medal haul grew at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin after Solay Thomas took home the bronze medal in the women’s shot put.

Thomas secured the final spot on the podium with a personal-best throw of 4.86 metres.

Her performance brings the island’s overall medal tally to three after Laura Repose and Kris Trott also secured bronze in the women’s 800 metres and men’s 200 metres level B events this week.

Bermuda is being represented by a team of 19 athletes in athletics, bowling, equestrianism, swimming and tennis as they hope to improve on the eight medals the island won at the previous Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in 2019.

It is the first time that Germany has hosted the Special Olympics, with this year’s event showcasing 7,000 athletes competing in 24 sports.

The Games will conclude on Sunday.
