Bernard Wade wins archery silver medal on day two of Island Games
Bernard Wade has won a silver medal in archery on day two of the Island Games in Guernsey.
Wade finished second in the men’s recurve final after scoring 1,193 points, nine points fewer than winner Hans Peter Hojgaard, of the Faroe Islands, who finished just five points outside the competition record
Elsewhere in Guernsey, sailor Nicole Stovell has moved into silver-medal position after day two in in the ICLA Class regatta.
Stovell finished second in both her races to finish the day on 14 points behind Maria Gornes Rodriguez, of Menorca, who has won all four races.
Azhai Smith also has outside hopes of a medal as he sits eighth on 34 points after finishes of tenth and eighth.
Bermuda’s football teams continued the winning thread with the women’s side beating Hitra 4-0.
Ashley Tutas, Eva Frazzoni, Symira Lowe-Darrell and Leilanni Nesbeth made it two wins in two games to top group one with six points, three points clear of Aland, whom the Lady Gombey Warriors play today, and Jersey.
In the men’s tournament, the under-23 team edged past Orkney 2-1 thanks to goals from Enrique Russell and Ne-Jai Tucker. They play Greenland today, with the winners topping the group.
The men’s and women’s singles tennis tournament also got under way on Monday and James Finnigan, who is seeded ten, made his way through with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Olle Rumander of Aland.
Christopher Weeks beat third seed Patrick Ogier, of Guernsey, in straight sets and Scott Redmond completed a trio of players through to the last 16 with a 2-0 win over Benjamin Brading of Isle of Wight.
In athletics, Sean Trott finished tenth in the 10,000 metres with a time of 33min 0.82sec.
Bermuda’s badminton squad finished fourth in their group after losing 3-2 to Falklands in their final match.
Aaron Simmons won his singles match before Emma Moran-Lee lost a closely fought game against Louise Williams.
In the men’s doubles tie, Simmons and Daljeet Singh Gadiwale lost in straight sets as did Somers Stevenson and Satya Darrell in the women’s doubles match before Danial Hughes and Jin Sun restored some respectability when winning the mixed doubles.
