Relief all round as netball league finally set to start
Bermuda Netball Association president Kimale Evans is delighted that league action finally gets under way on Saturday.
Seven matches are lined up at Bernard Park on opening day with two matches scheduled in the under-11, under-14 and under-17 age groups, while Lindo’s Tigers, one of the favourites to win the senior league, meet Docksiders in the only Premier Division fixture.
Storm collide with North Village and defending champions Phoenix Heat meet St George’s on Tuesday night.
The netball season was originally scheduled to start on October 28 at Bernard Park after minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Owen Darrell, handed over the revamped courts to the BNA last month, but poor weather has since forced the BNA to reschedule twice
Ahead of the start of the league action, teams have held training sessions to give them a feel of the refurbished surface.
“Everyone is excited to get going and they are especially excited to be back down at the home of netball, Bernard Park,’’ Evans said.
“The surface is great. It’s non-slip and non-skid, which is what we were looking for as a group. We've also had some teams that have trained in slightly light rain and they said the surface held up quite well. It wasn't slippery and they were still able to continue with their training session.
“Most teams train there, it’s probably just about all teams, except for two teams in our entire league.
“We have Storm Sports and Lindo’s Tigers, who I'm sure will be vying for that top spot as they have been in contention for the past two years.”
