Darika Simons fires North Village to victory over St George’s
Attacker Darika Simons scored 23 goals to guide North Village to a 36-27 victory over St George’s in the Netball League at Bernard Park on Monday.
Village, who gave an opportunity to rising star Kse Jennings, led 12-5 in the first quarter, extended that to 20-11 in the second 15 minutes of the game, and were up 31-19 at the end of the third quarter.
Coriah Simmons came in with 10 goals, while Jada Richards contributed three to the Village cause.
Hayley Francis-Cann was voted the Village MVP and Quinnae Outerbridge the best defender for the victorious side.
Kristin Holman led the way for St George’s with 11 goals, attacker Amali Powell and Sonja Townsend had six each, while Janaya Caines chipped in with four.
Jasmaine Adams was adjudged the St George’s MVP, and Sarafina Woolridge-Burns was the best defender for the vanquished team.
Nicole Smith, the Village coach, was delighted with the outcome in her team’s first game of the season.
“With this being our first match of the season, I was pleased to come away with a win, Smith said.
“We tried a few new combinations in the midcourt and I thought that went very well. One of our youngsters, Kse Jennings, was a part of the team. She’s 11 years old but has had some experience playing in England, so this was a good test for her to apply her skills at the senior level.”
