Storm beat St George’s to pick up second win of season
Storm defeated St George’s 37-28 at Bernard Park on Tuesday to record their second win in the Bermuda Netball Association Senior League.
MVP Zakiyah Durham put in a great display for Storm to score 17 goals with Nabiilah Nasir closely behind with 16. Best attacker Shenova Edwards scored four times, with Debré Evans voted best defender for the winning side.
St George’s named Jasmaine Adams as MVP and Kiarrah Rogers as top attacker. Their goals came from Nikita Trott with 17, Sonja Townsend’s with six, while Kristin Holman chipped in with five.
Durham spoke of how the cancellation of games caused by bad weather has affected her team’s rhythm.
“It’s been a rocky season for us,’’ Durham said. “Most of our games that we were supposed to play at the beginning of the season got rained, so they got rescheduled.
“We've barely played but we've had back-to-back games in the past two weeks, and I think we’re starting to get our gist back.
“We’re more intense because the more we play, the better we get playing together, especially because we haven't played in a while.
“Our team as a whole has grown as a whole in the past two seasons. We have gelled better, we have new players, we also bring players up from under-17, we influence and encourage them to play to the required standards.
“The rest of the season should look up from here. Next season, we’re definitely winning the league, undefeated.
“Against St George’s we started off great with more energy. We did shut off a few times but we came back, and we came out with the win.
“It could have been better but a win is a win. We know what we need to work on as a team and as individuals.”
