West hold off East’s ferocious comeback to win senior netball all-star match

The winning West team in the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Senior school all-star match

Senior School: West 24 East 22

The closest game of the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s all-star netball matches came when the West’s senior team held off a furious fourth-quarter comeback from the East to eventually win 24-22.

The East trailed 21-13 heading into the fourth quarter but then moved MVP Jamir Hatherley, from CedarBridge Academy, to the goal attack position to bolster their shooting and the move paved immediate dividends with the East scoring nine goals in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to two before just running out of time

CedarBridge's Rihanna Reddicks led all scorers with 14 goals, while Hatherley added three goal, Sydney Santos scoring four goals and Saltus Grammar school's Brittany Pacheco scoring one.

The Berkeley Institute's Haley Trott earned MVP honours for leading the West offence with nine goals. Her Berkeley team-mate, Makaylie Smith, added 8 goals, while BHS shooter Akina Williams added an offensive spark with four goals while Warwick Academy's Jessica Oppenheim contributed three goals.

The winning Middle School East team

Middle School: East 35 West 1

The East ran out convincing 35-1 winners in the the middle-school match. The Whitney Institue pair of E'Rynn Paynter and Cindi-Anna Darrell led the scoring with 15 and 11 goals respectively, while Somersfield Academy's Sydney Troake added nine goals for the East.

Ja'Miyah Johnston, from Whitney, earned MVP for the East for her defensive efforts while Mayah Williams-Johnson from Bermuda High School was named MVP for the West.

Primary School: East 17 West 6

The East were runaway winners in the Primary School match with Sophia Odouri, from Northlands Primary, leading the scorers with ten goals.

Ki’ana Simmons from Prospect Primary scored four while Northlands Primary's Reegan Lightbourne added three. Quin Burgess from Warwick Academy and Cataleya McCallan, from West Pembroke Primary, scored three apiece for the west. Odouri and Cush Belboda, from Purvis Primary, were named MVPs.
