Bodybuilders will be looking to impress the judges this summer when they venture on to the stage in National Physique Committee Worldwide Royal Grand Prix Bermuda Regional.

The competition is open to both local and overseas male and female bodybuilders aged 16 and older and will take place at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts at CedarBridge Academy on July 27.

Bodybuilders will compete in various categories with the winners of each division earning the right to compete at any international pro qualifier they are eligible for, including this year’s NPC Worldwide Pro Qualifier Caribbean Grand Prix in Bahamas on November 9.

“In order to do a pro qualifier you have to do a regional, so we are having a regional,” an event spokesperson told The Royal Gazette.

“The regional allows you to compete in any international pro qualifier except the USA internationals, which are just for US citizens and green card holders now.”

Organisers are looking forward to staging an exciting competition.

“The expectations are to have a highly competitive show with more male and female competitors because now we have all these categories whereas before some people would have to exclude themselves because they wouldn’t fit into the categories,” the spokesperson added.

“Now we have categories from bikini, bikini wellness, masters, men’s bodybuilding and classic physique. We have a category basically that any body structure can fit in.

“The idea is to be as inclusive as possible for more people to compete to fulfil their dreams, whether they want to compete internationally, attain a pro card or just something they want to do for a bucket list. We just really want to build the sport back to where it was before.”

Bermuda hosted the NPC Worldwide Pro Qualifier Caribbean Grand Prix for the second time in four years last year with locals Joy Eve, Marvin “Chico” Babon and Winston Weekes among those earning pro cards for winning their respective divisions.
