Spanish Point shock Sandys to clinch Keen Cup
Spanish Point Boat Club I recorded a shock 3-2 triumph over Sandys Boat Club to win the Keen Cup.
Todd Dziak opened the scoring for Point with a 46-17 victory over Richie Beale. Chris Dakin extended the Point lead, as he took out Peter Bromby 53-18.
Paul Fedden got Sandys on the scoreboard with a 54-22 win against Stewart Greenslade. Martin Siese equalised for Sandys, his 47-39 success over Alan Smith on the final black making it 2-2.
It was left to Smith to win it for Point in the tie-breaker, his 54-32 victory against Fedden securing a famous achievement.
The two sides meet again in the Zimmerman Team Challenge final after Sandys defeated Warwick Workmen's Club 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Siese, the Sandys captain, got the scoring under way, when he dispatched Zane DeSilva 68-58 in the first frame.
Fedden made it 2-0 for Sandys, when he took out Warwick captain, Steven Bremar in the second, before Bromby then sealed the whitewash, with a 46-38 win over Scott Barnes.
In the Tony DeSilva Memorial Cup semi-final, Steven Bremar defeated Scott Barnes 3-2, to set up a final clash with John Orr.
Matt Garrod and Toby Wright booked their spots in the semi-finals of the Bermuda Open singles. Garrod was 2-1 victorious against Dziak, with his opponent in the semi-finals being the winner of the clash between Greenslade and Aaron Bean.
Wright defeated Kyle Williams 2-0, with his opponent in the last four of the competition to be determined by the result of the contest involving Fedden and Bremar.
